Deliver Your Message To The Moon Aboard Selene
Space News
Sunday, 03 December 2006

You can now send your name (up to 10 characters) and a short message (up to 40 characters) to the Moon aboard the Japanese mission SELENE which is scheduled to launch summer of 2007.

As part of their WISH UPON THE MOON campaign, the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) is soliciting your message to be etched on a metal sheet that will be mounted near the spacecraft’s access panel. After it completes it’s scientific mission collecting detailed information about the lunar surface, SELENE’s orbit will decay and it will eventually crash into the Moon.

Your name and your message will forever more rest on the lunar surface (or until the artifact hunters of the future find and “retrieve” it for sale and profit). In either case, it’s a very cool idea on the part of JAXA to do this!
