Welcome

Some day, you will be able to book a trip to the Moon.
Until then, we bring the Moon to you.

 New Moon

The Moon in your  PC  -  a Virtual Reality Moon simulation based on Actual NASA data

The VirtuePlay Lunar Explorer is a realistic interactive visual representation of the Moon using actual data collected by NASA spacecraft and earthbound telescopes. It uses real-time 3D graphics techniques to provide an immersive virtual environment for the user to explore our nearest neighbor in a variety of ways - at a distance, in orbit, or walking on the lunar surface.

"You have given all of us a phenomenal opportunity to explore the Moon. Terrific!"

Dan Curry - Visual Effects Director for Star Trek The Next Generation, Start Trek Voyager, and Deep Space Nine.                      Seven-time Emmy Award Winner

Mission Statement

Lunar Explorer is committed to doing whatever is in our power to help bring about the long overdue birth of a true Space Faring Civilization. We will do this primarily through creating personal experiences of Space accessible to every living man, woman and child and sharing a bold and hopeful vision of the future that is within reach. Our message is that Space Settlement is the greatest adventure in all of Human history; that Space Settlement holds the keys to our Survival and our Prosperity; and that each and every person has the capacity to participate and to contribute significantly to making it happen in this generation. We will inform, educate, inspire and motivate people into taking action

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to visit the Moon?

“Magnificent Desolation.”
That’s what Buzz Aldrin called it when he first stepped out onto the alien surface of he Moon and looked around. Imagine what it must have felt like for him. To stand on another world and contemplate the Earth from a quarter of a million miles away. To feel the dry crunch of the fine lunar dust as it yields under each step you take. To know that you are one of only two living beings on this entire world

What a privilege and wonder it must be to walk on the Moon. What would you give to go there yourself? If you were inspired by watching the Apollo astronauts on the Moon, or if you have imagined what it would be like to visit the Moon yourself or are simply curious about the Moon…

Lunar Explorer was created for you

We have taken the best available NASA data on Lunar topography (from the 1994 Clementine mission) and created the most complete, accurate and realistic model of the Moon possible. It’s the first time this has ever been done. You will get to see the Moon in a way that only the astronauts who have been there have ever seen before.

You are no longer limited to experiencing the thrill of Space Exploration vicariously.
You are now the EXPLORER!
You decide where to go, where to land and, once on the surface, which direction to walk.
The entire Moon is at your disposal.
Of course you will want to visit the Apollo landing sites. There you will find the Lunar Modules, flags, Rovers, surface experiments and more. Every major object left on the surface is there for you to see up close and examine. Detailed information is available describing every object.
You will also want to visit the unmanned Surveyor landing sites and you will find the Russian Luna missions fascinating.

The Motivation Behind Lunar Explorer

We know there are millions of people like you who were inspired by the Apollo missions of the 60s and 70s. Like us, many of you probably watched those TV broadcasts from the Moon and imagined back then that by now (almost 40 years later) you might have an opportunity to go there yourself – a trip of a lifetime. But that’s not how things turned out. Today there is no possible way for us to go to the Moon. Manned exploration of the Moon should not be something we study in History books, it should be something we read about in newspapers. It really doesn’t matter whose fault it is that things are as they are. Blame accomplishes exactly nothing. We at Lunar Explorer just got tired of waiting. So we decided to do the next best thing: use state of the art technology to create as faithful and accurate a visual experience of the Moon as is possible with existing state of the art Virtual Reality and computer graphics technology.
